The four stages of MS

6:05 am Health and Fitness

There are several stages of progression in sufferers of MS. A subtype will use the past course of the disease to predict how the victim will be in the future. These are important when considering the therapy that a victim will require.

The ?US National Multiple Sclerosis Society standardized four subtype definitions in 1996, these are:

Relapsing Remitting,
Secondary Progressive,
Primary Progressive,
Progressive Relapsing.

The relapsing stage has unpredictable relapses followed by many ?months to years of remission with no new signs of disease activity. ?The Secondary progressive of MS describes around 65% of those with the initial-relapsing of MS who begin to have a decline between attacks without any periods of remission.

Progressive relapsing multiple sclerosis describes the individuals who, from the start have a steady neurologic decline but also suffer clear and obvious superimposed attacks.

If you know somebody who is affected by MS then please help them find a Multiple Sclerosis Support Group as they can provide all the support the sufferer needs!
